A kitchen will definitely take on a modern and upscale look with concrete countertops. Many people love the look and the durability that these countertops have to offer. Are you building a new home or renovating one? Have you considered these? Let’s talk about a few reasons you may or may not want them.

Concrete countertops are durable. They can last you many years. They are easy to clean and quite easy to maintain. You can choose from a variety of colors and styles. You can even have little rocks, stones, or glass pieces embedded in them for a unique look.

But they do need maintenance. They are not countertops that you can just wipe and forget. They need to be properly sealed from the beginning, and they need to be resealed from time to time. Do not allow acidic juices like citrus, coffee, wine, or vinegar, to sit on them, because these juices will eat through your sealer and cause stains. They can be chipped or cracked, so do not drop heavy items on them or use knives to cut food directly on them. If the sealer is compromised, the porous concrete can harbor bacteria.
